About the event

Hike to Freedom: Exploring Washington Rock’s Revolutionary Past

Join Scouts from Scouting America Troop 19 of St. Rose of Lima Church for a guided hike from the Locust Grove parking area of South Mountain Reservation to the historic Washington Rock. Upon arrival, interns from the Millburn–Short Hills Historical Society will share their expertise on how this dramatic overlook served as a vital Revolutionary War observation post, where signal fires and vigilant patriots helped General George Washington monitor British troop movements and safeguard the route to Morristown.

In recognition of Millburn’s proud role in the American Revolution, this hike is part of our community’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. Come walk the same high ground once used to defend liberty and experience the landscape that helped shape our fight for freedom.
